In a recent interview with SportsZone, Chairman of the Kano Sports Commission, Ibrahim Umar FIFA, shed light on the permission granted to Barau FC to use the Sani Abacha Stadium. This development has been welcomed by the Kano sports fraternity and the people of Kano State, as it signifies a major breakthrough for the team. According to Chairman Ibrahim Umar FIFA, the rumors circulating about the amount involved in the permission process are unfounded.
The Chairman emphasized that the Kano Sports Commission, being responsible for managing, controlling, and maintaining sports facilities, must follow due bureaucratic processes before granting access to any individual or organization. Despite this, the Commission has already forwarded its response to Barau FC's request and is awaiting their reaction. Chairman Ibrahim Umar FIFA expressed optimism that a positive outcome will be reached through mutual agreement.
The Chairman said, "Let me make it clear to you and the general public that it's not the responsibility of the ministry or commissioner of sports to grant permission; rather, it's the responsibility of the Sports Commission to receive requests and grant permission to whoever meets the requirements."
The Chairman highlighted the significance of having two teams from Kano State in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). He believes that this development will not only bring economic benefits but also promote sports development in the state. With Barau FC's potential participation in the NPFL, Kano State stands to gain from increased sporting activities, job creation, and enhanced revenue generation.
Chairman Ibrahim Umar FIFA's comments reflect the Commission's commitment to promoting sports in Kano State while adhering to established protocols. As the process continues, stakeholders are hopeful that a successful outcome will be achieved, paving the way for Barau FC's participation in the NPFL and contributing to the growth of sports in Kano State.
