In a significant development for the city's football fans, the Kano State Government has granted Barau Football Club permission to use the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, as their temporary home ground for the upcoming 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
According to Ahmad Hamisu Gwale, the club's Media Director, this approval follows a closed-door meeting between representatives of the Kano State Sports Commission and Barau FC management. The decision comes as the club's original home ground, the Dambatta Stadium in Kano North, undergoes renovations ahead of the new campaign.
Barau FC Chairman, Ibrahim Shitu Chanji, expressed gratitude to the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf, for granting the approval. He also commended the Kano State Sports Commission for their support and the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for his contributions.
"We appreciate the efforts of the Sports Commission in listening to our concerns and approving our request," Chanji stated. He urged the people of Kano State to be good ambassadors and conduct themselves responsibly during Barau FC matches this season.
Barau FC will host Enyimba FC in their NPFL opening fixture on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano. This eagerly anticipated match is expected to draw large crowds, and fans are excited to see their team in action at their new temporary home ground.
The approval of the Sani Abacha Stadium as Barau FC's home ground is a welcome development for the club and its supporters, and it promises to bring exciting football action to the city of Kano.
