Barau Football Club recently secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the 2025/2026 season under the youthful and visionary leadership of Club President Shawwal Barau Jibril and Chairman Ambassador Ibrahim Shitu Chanji. This remarkable achievement came as no surprise to many, as the duo have consistently demonstrated unwavering dedication to the club’s welfare, motivation, and overall support. Barau Football Academy was founded in 2021 under the leadership of Ibrahim Shitu Chanji, who served as the club’s pioneer chairman. Subsequently, Shawwal Barau Jibril emerged as the club's President, bringing fresh energy and innovation to the team.
In November 2023, the club officially changed its name from "Barau Academy" to "Barau Football Club," signaling a renewed focus on higher-level challenges and professional development. The club enjoys strong sponsorship and financial support from the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, who serves as its primary financier. The humility, friendliness, and commitment shown by both Shawwal and Chanji have played a key role in the club's steady rise. Their youthful leadership and shared passion have been instrumental in the team’s success, earning Barau FC recognition across the state, nation, and beyond.
Barau FC made its official debut in the Nationwide League One (NLO) during the 2023/2024 season at the Dutse Centre in Jigawa State. After a successful campaign, the team earned promotion to the Nigerian National League (NNL) for the 2024/2025 season. In a historic leap, Barau FC qualified for the 2025 NNL Super 8 Promotional Play-Off, held in July 2025 in Asaba, Delta State—securing one of the coveted NPFL slots this season.
As Barau FC sets its sights on competing in the NPFL, President Shawwal Barau Jibril and Chairman Ambassador Ibrahim Chanji remain committed to addressing all club matters, ensuring continued success and development.
