Barau FC Makes History With First-Ever NPFL Promotion

In a thrilling turn of events, Barau Football Club has secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the 2025/2026 season, marking a historic milestone for the club. The Maliya Boys finished second in Group A of the NNL Super 8 playoffs, held in Asaba, Delta State, with five points from three matches.

The decisive match against Doma United ended in a 2-0 victory for Barau FC, with goals from Usman Maidubji and Shammasu Muhd, both assisted by Sa'idu Salisu in the 9th and 16th minutes, respectively. This win sealed the club's fate in the top-flight league, a first in their history.

According to the club's Media Officer, Ahmad Hamisu Gwale, "This qualification is a historic milestone as Barau FC prepares for its debut campaign in the NPFL." The club's remarkable journey in two seasons from the Nationwide League One (NLO) to the Nigeria National League (NNL) and now to the NPFL is a testament to their determination and hard work.

The NNL25 Super 8 Playoffs saw Barau FC face stiff competition from Doma United, Wikki Tourists, and Yobe Desert Stars. After a cautious start with two draws against Yobe Desert and Wikki Tourists, Barau FC's victory over Doma United propelled them to the NPFL.

The club's delegation, comprising executives, board members, staff, players, fans, and dignitaries, traveled from various destinations to Asaba to witness and support this historic achievement. Technical Adviser Rabi'u Tata's strategic guidance played a key role in the club's success.

As Barau FC gears up for its first-ever NPFL season, the club remains focused and determined in its preparations for the challenges ahead. With this achievement, Kano State will now be represented by two clubs - Barau FC and Kano Pillars - in the upcoming NPFL season.

The promotion is a significant boost to Nigerian football, with Barau FC joining the likes of Enyimba, Remo Stars, Rivers United, Elkanemy Warriors, Enugu Rangers, and Katsina United in the top tier.

The club's fans and stakeholders are ecstatic about this achievement, and the team's management is confident that Barau FC will make a significant impact in the NPFL.
