Same James Shines as Barau FC Triumphs Over Zamfara United 3-0

In a thrilling Matchday 8 fixture, Barau FC forward Same James shone brightly, earning the SWAN Man of the Match award as his team thrashed Zamfara United 3-0 at the Dambatta Stadium on Saturday.

James's brilliant performance was instrumental in the Maliya Boys' dominant victory, witnessed by a large crowd of enthusiastic fans. He opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a fantastic goal, following an assist from Sunday Dapma. George Enyia doubled the lead in the 39th minute, with Same James providing another contribution. Adamu Ibrahim sealed the win with his first goal of the season for Barau FC in the 86th minute, converting a superb cross from Najib Yusuf.

Same James's overall performance earned him the SWAN Man of the Match award through a majority vote by members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano State chapter. The award was presented to Same James by Barau FC President Shawwal Barau I. Jibrin, alongside former Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kabiru Ado Lakwaya, and the club's chairman, Amb. Ibrahim Shitu Chanji.

During the presentation, Barau FC President Shawwal Barau Jibrin promised the players and technical crew a financial package as a winning bonus. He also announced a special package of N200,000 each for Same James, the Man of the Match, and goalkeeper Salim Ali for keeping a clean sheet and his impressive performance. The president encouraged the team to maintain their form in upcoming matches.

In post-match Interviews, Barau FC technical adviser Rabiu Tata expressed gratitude to the fans and the Dambatta community for their unwavering support. He reiterated his determination to lead the team to league glory, expressing confidence in the club's ability to secure more victories in the future.

Meanwhile, Zamfara United head coach Sani Hassan praised Barau FC's performance and expressed optimism that his team would bounce back in future games. He also commended officiating during the match.

This victory marks Barau FC's first win in the second stanza of the NNL season, lifting them to 5th place on the log with 9 points from 7 matches. Barau FC will travel to face Sokoto United on Saturday, April 19, 2025, for Matchday 9 in the Nigerian National League NNL 2024/2025 season.

The new kick-off date is now set for August 20th, instead of the initially announced August 13th. According to the tournament coordinator, Alhaji Abahurarai Dahiru, the decision to reschedule was made after consultations with stakeholders, who agreed that the recent "End of Bad Government" protests in some parts of the country warranted a postponement. The venue for the tournament remains the New Stadium, Zaria Road, Jos, in Plateau State.
