Gombe State Inter-Schools Athletics Championships: 73 Schools Confirm Participation

The Gombe State Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Competition 2025 has received a significant boost with 73 schools across 11 Local Government Areas officially registering to participate in the championship.

Scheduled to take place from January 19 to 25, 2025, at the Pantami Township Stadium in Gombe Metropolis, the event aims to promote sportsmanship, uncover young athletic talents, and foster youth development.

Participating schools, including GDSS Dukku West, GSS Bolari East, Emerald International Academy, and Diocesan High School, will compete in various track and field events, such as 100m, 200m, 400m, and relay races, as well as shot put, long jump, high jump, triple jump, and javelin throw.

Additionally, football matches are scheduled, featuring youth football teams competing in exciting games leading to the finals. Notably, scouts from Germany, led by former Flying Eagles captain and UEFA License Coach Andrew Uwe, and Coach Henry Ambrose from AGIC-DIASPORA FOOTBALL OUTREACH, will be in attendance to identify talented players during the Principal's Cup football competition.

The opening ceremony on January 19 will feature a match pass, while the closing ceremony on January 25 will include the presentation of medals and awards to outstanding athletes and schools.

Organized by the Gombe State Athletics Association, led by Hon. Ahmad Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, and sponsored by the Green White Green Sports Center, the event will bring together over 3,500 athletes and footballers from across the 11 Local Government Areas in the state.

The Games Village, equipped with security, accommodation, healthcare, food, and entertainment, will provide a holistic experience for participants and spectators alike.

With a strong response from participating schools, organizers are committed to delivering a well-organized and competitive event that will serve as a platform for nurturing future athletes and fostering collaboration among schools.

Gusau/Ahalan 2024 Preseason Cup Kick-Off Date Rescheduled

The new kick-off date is now set for August 20th, instead of the initially announced August 13th. According to the tournament coordinator, Alhaji Abahurarai Dahiru, the decision to reschedule was made after consultations with stakeholders, who agreed that the recent "End of Bad Government" protests in some parts of the country warranted a postponement. The venue for the tournament remains the New Stadium, Zaria Road, Jos, in Plateau State.
