Umar Abubakar, the 18-year-old Nigerian striker, is making waves in the Belgium League with his impressive goal-scoring form. Playing for Jong KAA Gent in the Belgian First Amateur Division, Abubakar has netted 7 goals in just 14 matches, showcasing his exceptional scoring ability and positioning.
The towering 1.90m striker's rise to prominence began with Abuja-based Footwork FC, where he consistently scored and assisted goals, catching the attention of Nigerian U17 Golden Eaglets' Technical Adviser, Coach Nduka Ugbade. Abubakar's impressive performance earned him a call-up to the U17 team in 2023.
Abubakar made four appearances for Nigeria at the 2023 African Cup of Nations, starting two matches before Burkina Faso eliminated the team. His experience on the international stage has seemingly fueled his success in Belgium.
