In an exhilarating finale, NAF Cobras FC, the Nigeria Air Force U20 team, emerged victorious in the fourth edition of the Annual Chief of Air Staff National Peace U20 male youth football tournament. The competition, organized by the African Youth Sports Federation (AYSOF), took place at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano state, featuring 32 teams from across the country.
NAF Cobras FC's impressive performance saw them remain undefeated from the group stages to the finals. Their hard work paid off as they were awarded a trophy and a cash prize of ₦150,000. The second runner-up received ₦100,000.
A special award was presented to Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to promoting sports in the state.
In his remarks at the closing ceremony, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar, represented by Group Captain M. Suleiman Commander 455 Base Service Group Nigerian Air Force Base Kano, emphasized the significance of the tournament in promoting unity, cooperation, and sustainable peace and security among youth. He encouraged the young athletes to become good ambassadors for their state and nation, highlighting the Nigerian Air Force's commitment to providing security through non-kinetic approaches and promoting friendship.
The Chief Guest of Honour, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umar (rtd), praised the initiative and sustenance of the tournament, citing it as a shining example of how institutions can contribute to national development beyond their primary responsibilities.
The tournament's climax saw NAF Cobras FC defeat KEDCO FC by a single goal, securing their spot in the 48th edition of the World U20 Peace football competition in Lisbon, Portugal, next year. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the team and Nigerian football as a whole.
