Nasarawa State to Host 2025 Gusau/Ahlan Pre-Season Soccer Tournament

In a colourful ceremony held at the Lafia Township Stadium, Nigeria Football Federation President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau MON, officially handed over the hosting rights of the 2025 Gusau/Ahlan Pre-Season Soccer Tournament to the Nasarawa State Government.

Gusau presented the hosting flag to Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, symbolizing the state's confirmation as the next host. The decision to award Nasarawa State the hosting rights was inspired by Governor Sule's commitment to promoting sports, particularly football, in the state and nationwide.

The tournament will take place in Lafia before the start of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season. Governor Sule assured Nigerians that his government will provide necessary logistics for a successful tournament, reaffirming his administration's support for initiatives that develop sports activities in the state and country.

Abahuraira Dahiru, the Coordinator of the tournament, highlighted the rich history of the brand and its impact on Nigerian football. He noted that the duo of Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau MON and Alhaji Sharif Rabi'u Inuwa Ahlan have invested massively in projecting the round leather game in the country.

The Gusau/Ahlan Pre-Season Soccer Tournament was initiated to appreciate the contributions of NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau MON and board member Alhaji Sharif Rabi'u Inuwa Ahlan to Nigerian football. The tournament features 16 teams from the NPFL and NNL leagues.

The 2024 edition was hosted by the Plateau State Government in Jos, with Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi emerging as champions after defeating Wikki Tourist Football Club of Bauchi 4-3 in a penalty shootout .

Gusau/Ahalan 2024 Preseason Cup Kick-Off Date Rescheduled

The new kick-off date is now set for August 20th, instead of the initially announced August 13th. According to the tournament coordinator, Alhaji Abahurarai Dahiru, the decision to reschedule was made after consultations with stakeholders, who agreed that the recent "End of Bad Government" protests in some parts of the country warranted a postponement. The venue for the tournament remains the New Stadium, Zaria Road, Jos, in Plateau State. Sixteen football teams from the NPFL and NNL have confirmed their participation, and are expected to arrive in Jos on August 19th.
