Preparations for the 2024 Gombe State Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championship are nearing completion, with the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) expressing satisfaction with the progress made by key sub-committees.
During the MOC's fifth sitting on August 10, 2024, at the GOFCECON Hotel, Chairman Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe commended the Transport and Accommodation, Media, and Technical Committees for their commitment and progress.
The Transport and Accommodation Sub-Committee reported significant advancements, including the inspection of proposed Games Villages and securing approvals from relevant authorities. However, the need for improved sanitation facilities was emphasized.
The Media Sub-Committee presented a comprehensive communication strategy, including a radio jingle campaign, which received approval. The Technical Committee focused on logistical details, including medal production and athlete identification.
The MOC appointed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jauro Usman as Camp Commandant, assisted by representatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps and GOSTEC.
With the opening ceremony slated for September 29, 2024, preparations will continue in the coming weeks, with additional sub-committee reports expected. The championship promises to be an exciting showcase of athletic talent, and Gombe is ready to host a successful event.
