NFF President Gusau Confirms VAR Implementation in NPFL

In a significant development for Nigerian football, President Ibrahim Musa Gusau of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has announced the Federation's intention to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the Nigerian Premier Football League. This move aims to enhance the accuracy of refereeing decisions and improve the overall quality of the league.

President Gusau revealed that the NFF will collaborate with international partners to provide comprehensive training for referees on VAR operations. This training will ensure that referees are well-equipped to effectively utilize VAR technology during matches.

Furthermore, President Gusau confirmed that communication gadgets will be used by referees in the upcoming season to facilitate better officiating. These gadgets will enable referees to receive input from their assistants and make informed decisions.

The introduction of VAR technology is a significant step forward for Nigerian football, aligning the country with international best practices. The move is expected to reduce controversy and disputes related to refereeing decisions, promoting a more enjoyable and competitive league.

Gusau/Ahalan 2024 Preseason Cup Kick-Off Date Rescheduled

The new kick-off date is now set for August 20th, instead of the initially announced August 13th. According to the tournament coordinator, Alhaji Abahurarai Dahiru, the decision to reschedule was made after consultations with stakeholders, who agreed that the recent "End of Bad Government" protests in some parts of the country warranted a postponement. The venue for the tournament remains the New Stadium, Zaria Road, Jos, in Plateau State. Sixteen football teams from the NPFL and NNL have confirmed their participation, and are expected to arrive in Jos on August 19th.
