A group of friends organized a one-day golf kitty tournament in honor of Kauran Saminaka, Alhaji Umar Adamkolo Umar, following his recent turbaning by the Emir of Saminaka in Kaduna State, Alhaji Ibrahim Sani. The event was held at the Kano Club golf section and attracted eminent personalities from within and outside the state who attended to celebrate with the traditional title holder.
Speaking at the event, former veteran journalist Nasiru Balarabe Zahradeen described Alhaji Umar's turbaning as well-deserved, considering his contributions to the development of various communities across the northern part of the country. Zahradeen assured that with this development, the Kauran Saminaka would continue to redouble his efforts, especially in his commitment to rendering selfless service to the Saminaka community, Kano, and Borno states.
Former Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) staff Zahradeen explained that with the current situation in some parts of the northern states, all hands must be on deck to overcome the challenges.
In their separate remarks, former aide to the Zamfara State government, Alhaji Umar Lawan Gusau, and Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi Bagwanje described the turbaning of Alhaji Umar as significant to the Saminaka community.
Some speakers at the occasion applauded the Emir of Saminaka for turbaning Alhaji Umar Adamkolo Umar as Kauran Saminaka. They charged Alhaji Umar to continue promoting and developing the Saminaka Emirate Council for the upliftment of the traditional institution in the state and the country in general.
In his short speech, the celebrant, Alhaji Umar, thanked the Emir of Saminaka, Alhaji Ibrahim Sani, for giving him the title, assuring that he would do everything possible to remain loyal and committed to the emirate council.
The Kauran Saminaka expressed appreciation to all those who contributed to organizing the colorful golf competition. He said that with continued support from well-wishers, friends, and the emirate council, he would not disappoint them in discharging his responsibilities.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of prizes and gifts to the winners of various categories of the tournament. Among the highest personalities who graced the occasion were the former military administrator of Jigawa State, Colonel Abba Zakari Maimalari, the former chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, Comrade Abdulkadir Ahmad Kwakwatawa, board of trustees of Kano Club, Alhaji Iro Yahaya and former chairman of Kano Pillars Football Club, Alhaji Kabiru Baita, among others."
