The 38th edition of the Dala Hard Courts Tennis championship is set to get underway from November 20th to 29th, 2025, at the Kano Club tennis section, and it's going to be a thrilling ride. The Nigerian Tennis Federation (NTF) has approved the dates for the tournament, which will feature over 200 players from across the country.
Tournament Director, Alhaji Yusuf Datti, revealed this while briefing newsmen on the preparations ahead of the competition. Alhaji Datti, who doubles as Vice President of the Nigerian Tennis Federation, said that the preliminary rounds will be held from November 21st to 23rd, while the main draw commences on Monday, November 24th, and the final will hold on November 29th.
The organizers have requested the NTF to invite the top 20 ranked men and the top 10 ranked ladies to participate in the main draw of the event. According to Alhaji Datti, this year's budget is projected to be higher than last year due to the general increase in prices. Nevertheless, the organizers are optimistic about receiving positive support from their principal sponsors, including TGI, First Bank PLC, and Fidelity Bank, as well as other corporate organizations and individuals.
The organizing committee will provide accommodation and feeding for national officials and participating players. Alhaji Datti praised the young players who have broken through to challenge the veterans in the championship, citing the example of the current female Dala Hard Court defending champion, Khadija Mohammed. The talented teenager debuted in the championship as a 14-year-old amateur in 2023 and went on to win the female category. She is now ranked number one in Nigeria in female tennis.
Alhaji Datti commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other top government officials for their support and cooperation, which has helped to promote and develop the game of tennis in the state and the country at large. He assured that the leadership of Dala Hard Courts Tennis will continue to work tirelessly to promote and develop the game in the state and the country.
The Dala Hard Courts Tennis championship has become one of the premier tennis events in the country, and the 38th edition is expected to be the best yet. With top-ranked players, exciting matches, and a strong commitment to promoting the game, this year's tournament promises to be an unforgettable experience for players and spectators alike.
