NPFL Sanctions Kano Pillars: A Fair Verdict or Overreach?

By Muzammil Dalha Yola

‎The recent Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match between Kano Pillars FC and Shooting Stars (3SC) at the Sani Abacha Stadium has sparked controversy, with Magistrate Ibrahim Gwadabe weighing in on the sanctions imposed on Kano Pillars. According to Gwadabe, the decision taken by the NPFL is "unfair and too harsh."

‎Gwadabe expressed his concerns about the summary jurisdiction verdict, stating that it is essential for all stakeholders to stand against such decisions. He emphasized that the principle of natural justice dictates that a party should be given the opportunity to be heard before a verdict is passed. In this case, Gwadabe believes that Kano Pillars was not afforded this opportunity, making the decision unfair.

‎"I don't support or believe in violence, hooliganism, or what some few misguided fanatics, Kano Pillars FC fans, did. However, I believe that justice and fairness for all will help eradicate fan violence in our stadiums," said Gwadabe.

‎Furthermore, Gwadabe pointed out that Rule E1 of the NPFL's regulations, which provides for extra punishment if a party chooses to appeal, but fails or is found to have been frivolous, such party may be liable to such additional sanction(s) as may be deemed fit in the circumstance, is unconstitutional. He argued that this rule offends the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and the principle of natural justice.

‎"I hope that, as they punished Kano Pillars FC, the match officials will also be investigated and their decisions reviewed. If found guilty, they should also be punished by banning them because they don't deserve to be umpires anymore."

‎The NPFL's decision to sanction Kano Pillars has sparked a heated debate among stakeholders. While some believe that the sanctions are necessary to maintain order and discipline in the league, others argue that they are too harsh and unfair. Ahmed Musa, the General Manager of Kano Pillars, has already apologized for the incident and condemned the violent behavior of the fans.

‎The controversy surrounding the NPFL's sanctions on Kano Pillars highlights the need for a more nuanced approach to discipline and punishment in sports. As the league continues to navigate these complex issues, it is essential for all stakeholders to work together to ensure that justice is served and that the integrity of the game is maintained.

Wikki Tourists Fans' Treatment of Coach Abdu Maikaba and His True Value

By Aminu Maikaba Coach Abdu Maikaba has spent several seasons leading Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi, steering the club through both difficult moments and historic successes. When results do not go Wikki's way, especially after losses or disappointing draws, some fans respond with harsh criticism, insults, and calls for his dismissal, often blaming him alone for poor performances.
