Gateway Games 2024 Kicks Off With Splendor In Abeokuta, Ogun State

.... As KSSC Chairman FIFA charged Kano Contingent to be good ambassadors of the state.

The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR ably represented by the Vice president Senator Kashim Shetima GCON declare open the 22nd National Sports Festival at the Main bowl of Moshood Abiola International Stadium in the city of Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.

At the opening ceremony, the president said, National Sports Festival which brought together over ten thousand athletes drawn from the thirty six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is aimed at fostering unity and promote cultural diversities among the youth in the country.

According to the president, the Sports Festival also showcase the rich cultural values embedded in the shore of Our great country; an its equally an avenue to bring out the best out of talented youths in the country to compete favourably with their counterparts from around the globe.

Bola Tinibu therefore charged the athletes, coaches and all the relevant stakeholders to strictly adheres to the rules of the games; and further assured the athletes through National Sports Commission( NSC)of the federal government commitments and unwavering support to them at all levels.

Earlier, the Chairman National Sports Commission Mallam Shehu Diko emphasized that the National Sports Festival is not merely a tradition but a strategic platform to discovered emerging talents and strengthen national unity through the power of sports 

Lending his voice at the occasion, the Governor of Ogun State Prince Dapo Abiodun maintains that sports plays vital role in ensuring National delovepment, peace and unity of a country.

Also eminent personalities in attendance were former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, and top officials of the National Sports Commission, led by Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko. The Governors of Kogi State and Zamfara were also present. Representing the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno PhD, was the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, Professor Woke Soyinka and former speaker of the federation Hon. Dimeji Bankole. 

On his part, the Acting Chairman Kano Sports Commission Ibrahim Umar FIFA charged the athletes, coaches secretaries and other accompanied officials to be good ambassadors of the state during and after the sports festival.

The Chairman further encouraged the athletes to try their best possible to win laurels for the state and to compliments his Excellency efforts in driving Youth and Sports development in Kano State, as he equally assured them of his commitments towards uplifting Youths and Sports sector in the state.

The National Sports Festival is Nigeria’s premier sporting event, bringing together athletes from all over the country to compete and promote unity through sport.

FASTE Emerges Overall Winner of ADUSTECH 12th Inter-Faculties Sports Competition

By Muzammil Dalha Yola The 12th edition of the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil (ADUSTECH) Inter-Faculties Sports Competition came to a close on Thursday, August 7, 2025, with a thrilling football final between the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science and Technology Education (FASTE) at the University's football pitch. The match was highly contested, with FASTE emerging victorious, winning 1-0 against the Faculty of Engineering.
