Gerawa Rice Mills Sponsor Inter Banks Tournament Welcomes SWAN Partnership

The highly anticipated Gerawa Rice Mills Inter Banks Football Tournament kicked off in dazzling style on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Kano Pillars Stadium. This year marks the tenth edition of the tournament, sponsored entirely by Gerawa Rice Mills, and the opening ceremony was graced by the esteemed Chairman of Gerawa Group of Companies, Alhaji Isah Ibrahim Gerawa. 

In an exhilarating opening match, FCMB delivered an impressive performance, thrashing Unity Bank with a striking scoreline of 4-0. The standout player of the match, Abdullahi Nuhu from FCMB, was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title, showcasing his exceptional skills by scoring two goals and leadership on the field.

During his remarks at the event, Alhaji Isah Ibrahim Gerawa expressed his delight in sponsoring this year’s tournament, citing the strong relationships Gerawa Rice Mills has fostered with various banks. "Our partnership with these financial institutions aims to enhance the visibility of our products and contribute to the spirit of camaraderie through sports," he stated. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to sponsor this tenth edition of the Inter Banks Football Tournament. I assure you that next year’s edition will be even bigger and better."

Additionally, the Chairman announced an exciting new collaboration with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano State Chapter, emphasizing his commitment to promoting sporting activities across Kano and Nigeria as a whole. "I am ready and happy to partner with SWAN to further enhance our sports initiatives and engage the community," he declared.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman, Mr. Mike Anike, also expressed gratitude towards Gerawa Rice Mills for their generous sponsorship. He noted that such support exemplifies the company's dedication to social responsibility and community development. "The commitment from Gerawa Rice Mills to sponsor this tournament is a testament to their concern for the community and the promotion of sporting activities," Anike stated.

Gusau/Ahalan 2024 Preseason Cup Kick-Off Date Rescheduled

The new kick-off date is now set for August 20th, instead of the initially announced August 13th. According to the tournament coordinator, Alhaji Abahurarai Dahiru, the decision to reschedule was made after consultations with stakeholders, who agreed that the recent "End of Bad Government" protests in some parts of the country warranted a postponement. The venue for the tournament remains the New Stadium, Zaria Road, Jos, in Plateau State. Sixteen football teams from the NPFL and NNL have confirmed their participation, and are expected to arrive in Jos on August 19th.
