In a bold call to action, Ogo Clarkson, CEO of Topsportsafrik, has implored Nigerian football clubs to shift their focus towards signing talented young players, rather than resorting to bribery and manipulation. Speaking ahead of the new season, Clarkson emphasized the need for a fresh approach, highlighting the success of young players like 16-year-old Yamal in the European Championship.
Clarkson praised the slight improvement in the domestic league but condemned the persistent practice of bribing match officials and manipulating results. He urged those responsible to desist from such unethical behavior, emphasizing the importance of developing young talent.
Citing Yamal's impressive performance alongside world-class stars like Mbappe and Kante, Clarkson encouraged Nigerian coaches to learn from this example and prioritize youth development. He stressed that the current signing window presents ample opportunities for clubs to discover fresh talent, reducing the reliance on tired and recycled players.
By adopting this approach, Clarkson believes that the need for questionable refereeing and bribery in the league will diminish, ultimately elevating the standard of Nigerian football. His words serve as a wake-up call for coaches, scouts, and sporting directors to revitalize the domestic league by investing in young talent.
